UK PM Weighs Shifting Green Levies Off Power Bills to Cut Costs
- Britain's new prime minister, Andy Burnham, is examining a plan to cut household energy bills by around £130 a year by moving green levies off electricity and into general taxation.
- Drawn up by the think tank Nesta, the proposal aims to make electric heat pumps cheaper to run than gas boilers, at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of about £3.2 billion a year.
- It is under consideration, not yet policy.
