UK borrowing overshoots by £2.3 billion in July, tightening the vise on Healey's first Budget
- Britain borrowed £1.8 billion in July, £2.3 billion more than the Office for Budget Responsibility had pencilled in for a month that self-assessment tax receipts usually flatter.
- Public sector net debt stands at £2,984.9 billion, or 94.1% of GDP, and the July figures land ten weeks before Chancellor John Healey's first Budget on October 28.
