France's contraction deepens as services weaken and the ECB leans the other way
- France's flash composite PMI fell to 48.8 in August from 49.4 in July, against forecasts of a modest improvement, as services activity dropped to 48.4.
- The awkward part is the policy backdrop: the European Central Bank raised rates in June for the first time since 2023 and markets are close to fully pricing another increase in September.
