Eurozone Inflation Eases to 2.8%, a Five-Month Low, but Energy Stays Hot

  • Euro-area annual inflation was confirmed at 2.8% in June, down from 3.2% in May and the lowest since February, official figures show.
  • The cooling is welcome for the European Central Bank, but energy prices are still running hot at 8.7%, a reminder that the conflict around Iran is keeping upward pressure on the numbers.
