Japan earmarks another $944 million for Rapidus, its long-shot bet against TSMC

  • Tokyo is setting aside a further ¥150 billion, about $944 million, for Rapidus, the state-backed chipmaker trying to build 2-nanometre logic capacity in Hokkaido from a standing start.
  • The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will seek more in its fiscal 2027 budget, on top of public support already running into the trillions of yen.
