Tesla kills the Solar Roof, ten years and 97% short of its target

  • Tesla has stopped making the Solar Roof, the solar shingle it unveiled in 2016 weeks before shareholders approved its acquisition of SolarCity.
  • Elon Musk said the line would reach 1,000 installations a week by 2019; at its best it managed roughly 23.
  • Existing customers keep their warranties, and Tesla will keep selling conventional panels.
