Gold jumps to its highest since early June as the Treasury doubles bond buybacks

  • Gold leapt roughly $100 in under an hour on Wednesday, trading above $4,460 an ounce for the first time since early June, after the US Treasury said it would double the size of its long-dated bond buyback operations to at least $4 billion each.
  • The 30-year Treasury yield fell to 5.19%, a two-week low, easing the pressure that had weighed on the metal.

  • Gold climbed back above $4,000 an ounce on June 25, rebounding from a dip below that level as a softer dollar and lower bond yields offset a Federal Reserve in no rush to cut rates.
  • After a historic run, the metal is now caught between a fading war premium and steady central-bank buying.
